Best Times to Visit mumok in Vienna

Mornings Right After Opening (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

Arriving early allows you to explore the museum’s modern and contemporary art galleries before the crowds arrive. This is the perfect time to enjoy quiet contemplation of iconic works by artists such as Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, and Austrian modernists, or take unobstructed photos of the exhibitions.

Weekdays, Especially Tuesday Through Thursday

These days typically see fewer visitors than weekends, giving you a calmer experience. Midweek visits make it easier to move through the museum at your own pace, engage with interactive displays, and fully immerse yourself in both permanent collections and temporary exhibitions.

Outside Peak Tourist Seasons

mumok tends to be busiest during the summer months, holiday breaks, and major Vienna events. Planning your visit in late winter, early spring, or early fall means shorter lines, more space in galleries, and a more relaxed experience. Off-peak times also make it easier to combine your trip with exploring nearby MuseumsQuartier attractions or Vienna’s vibrant cafés.

During Special Exhibitions and Programs

mumok frequently hosts temporary exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, and special events. Planning your visit around these occasions gives you the chance to see unique installations, experience guided insights from curators, and enjoy one-of-a-kind artistic experiences that are only available for a limited time.
